(From Ancient greek σωματοφύλακες ) means “Bodyguards”.
This is how were designated victorious hoplites back from the battlefield thus having protected the civic body of the city. Thereafter, the term became famous because it designated more specifically the personnal guards of the macedonian kings starting with Alexander the Great.
Today, this is the name we have chosen for our assocation. Indeed, by focusing our primary activities on the experimentation of the martial gesture in history and the hoplitic techniques in particular, the association became in some way the warden of the ancient Somatophylaque’s memory, and promotes it via a dynamic and interactive approach : Living history.
